SHEARING SEASON
Wanganui Prospects Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, October 22. Wool for the first Wiingauui appraisal of the new season, to be held on November 17, is now arriving at the city stores, and it was reported today Iha t good progress is being made with shearing operations in the district. In contrast, with Ibis time last year,' tire past two mouths have been warm and dry, a condition that has enabled many farmers to make an earlier start with shearing. Lhe beginning of lust season was retarded by exceptionally wet weal her. As yet, it is too early to estimate t.ie number of bales that will be offered at the first Wanganui appraisal next month, but. if good shearing weather continues, the total should compare more than favourably witli other ’ seasons. J lie labour situation this year lias als'o biwn partly responsible for earlier slieariug_ Many farmers have taken advantage of the men available at the moment rather than wait till the position becomes difficult. Some of the larger sheds will not begin operations till next month, or even December, but in the meantime shearers arc operating on the smaller flocks.
