SALUTING OFF DUTY

The abolition of saluting by soldiers when off duty was suggested in notice of a question given by Mr. Lee (Democratic Labour, Grey Lynn) in conjunction with Mr. Barnard- (Democratic Labour, Napier). They intend to ask the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, whether he will- take steps to do this, and in a note to their question pointed out that saluting by soldiers when off duty was now abolished in the Australian Forces, and that its application was being urged even in Britain.
