Te Kopu Maori Club. In memory of the lute Duke of Kent, one minute’s silence was observed by members of the Te Ropti Maori Club, Lower Hutt, at the monthly meeting for soldiers’ pareels. Mrs. Hapi Love, president, welcomed the Petone ladies choir, which, under the baton .of Mrs. Alma Millward, glive items. Miss Maddever gave a talk about her travels abroad, and the Misses Dix presented a play. Mrs. Te Waari, secretary, read letters of thanks from Maori Battalion members, and gave a brief summary <>i the club’s activities on their behalf.
W.N.K. Lyall Bay Branch Benefits. An enjoyable afternoon was held recently at the home of Mrs. Dunn, Queen’s Drive, Kilbirnie, in aid of the Lyall Bay branch of the Women’s National Reserve. The Karori Lyric Singers, under the leadership of Mrs. Cable, entertained with a programme of story and song. Earlier in the month the same branch held a successful jumble sale, and Mrs. Maxwell, Puru Crescent, arranged a bridge afternoon, the proceeds also helping to swell Lyall Bay funds. Stokes Valley League of Mothers. The Stokes Valley branch of the League of Mothers held its sixth annual meeting recently. Mrs. Binning, Lower Hutt, gave interesting demonstrations and presentations were made to Mesdames Whitcher, Wander, Dalton and Payne. The following officers were elected President, Mrs. Whitcher; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Cording and Warder; secretary, MrL Holloway; treasurer, Mrs. Dalton, committee, Mesdames Coomb. Evans and Payne.
Many Contributions Made. Mrs. Summers presided over (tie August meeting of the Stokes Valley Women’s Institute. The singing circle gave three numbers, which were much appreciated, and a great deal of sewing am knitting was handed in from the Red Cross groups. A talk on the growth and importance of occupational therapy was giver by Miss M. E. Porter, members contributing parcels of oddments mid pieces to aid her in her work.
Talks on Adjustment Clubs’ Work. At a recent meeting of the >'omen s Study Circle, Wellington, Mrs. O Cnllngan and Mrs. McGlnshen Smith were the speakers. Mrs. O’Unllagan spoke ol 'He braille club for the blind m Wellington Mrs. Smith spoke about the work of ’he Hard of Hearing League, which is n* in Wellington, amt its progress ui lie field of lip-reading instruction, 1,1,1 speakers were thanked by the president.
