INFORMAL RECEPTION

Lady Lake Guest At Red Cross Party

Representing all purls of the Wellington district, more than 200 Red Cross voluntary aids in their white, navy and scarlet uniforms, together with members of the Red Cross transport section, met at an informal reception in At ellington last night. The guest of honour was Lady Lake, who wore an English Red Cross uniform. Lady Lake, before coming to New Zealand was a Red Cross nursing member in Hampshire, and was also a nursing member during the. last war. The English-Speaking Union rooms were crowded, items were presented, and competitions enjoyed. The delicious supper which was served later in the evening was prepared by members of the Red Cross dietary, group of the V.A.D.

Other special guests welcomed, were Miss I. Crooke, director-general, V.A.D.; Sister Small, director, Junior Red Cross; Mrs. Marshall McDonald, who is in charge of the dietary group; Miss Barron, a Red Cross lady superintendent; Miss T. Lissington,.secretary, Red Cross Society. Miss Whitelaw, who is in charge of voluntary aids, organized the evening. Mrs. Murray Graham sang, accompanied by Mrs.’C. McDonald, and Mr. Lonsdale was in charge of competitions, for which numerous prizes were given. The gathering was one of the .most successful of its kind yet held.
