Chinese Push East KINWHA NOW BEING ATTACKED (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) LONDON, August 31. The Chinese are hurrying to restore the air bases in the “bombTokio” provinces. Work has begun on the two important airfields which have been recaptured at Chuhsien and Lishui in Chekiang, and theChinese have now advanced to a third base at Kinwha, capital of the province. A Reuter report from Chungking says that the Japanese appear to be failing back to the poositions they held when they began their drive against Marshal Chiang Kai-shek’s troops from the coast. Southern Chezkiang is now reported to have been entirely cleared of the Japanese. Chungking reports that the Chinese ' have recaptured Sunyang 40 miles west of the air bases at Lishui, destroying half the defenders and driving the rest out. In the south Chinese columns are 30 miles north of Canton and are still advancing. ,

ALLIED NUTCRACKER Burma Raided From China And India LONDON, August 31. General Stilwell says in a communique from Chungking: “American bombers raided Myitkyina (northern Burma) and started three large fires in the city and scored direct hits on the aerodrome and dispersal areas. They dropped' anti-personnel -bombs on runways and barracks. None of our planes or personnel were lost.” This raid was additional to those reported from American Headquarters in New Delhi, in which American and R.A.F. fighters and medium bombers without casualties blasted Myitkyina on the two previous days, ruining extensive aerodrome repairs which had been made by the Japanese. On Saturday United States planes attacked Lashio apd scored 32 hits in the target area. On Friday, American bomberg attacked a Japanese base in north Indo-Ohina. The R.A.F. bombed Japanese river craft at Akyab yesterday. Low-level attacks were made on one steamer, which was seen to be sinking. Some aircraft returned to their base without carrying out the mission owing to bad weather.
