N.Z. FLEET AIR ARM PILOTS

New Zealanders in the Fleet Air Arm operated from aircraft-carriers which were part of the force involved in the recent Malta convoy action. Sub-Lieutenant F. Pennington (Wellington) Shot down two Italians. SubLieutenants Hugh Morrison (Masterton) and D. Hill (Wellington) shot down one each.
Naval Cadet J. M. Armstrong (Wellington), R.N.Z.N., was awarded a prize for special entry cadets when he passed out from the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. Others passing out were Class I Naval Cadets E. C; Thorne and W. H. Peterson (Wellington). Temporary commissions in the lleet Air Arm have been given Sub-Lieutenants J. M. Howden, S. R. Cameron, J. J.’Urlich, D. Alexander, T. E. Irwin, R. Rathbone, J. C. Patterson, R. G. Peers, B. Sime, R. A. Lawson and Midshipman J. B. Crisp. „ , Pilot Officer K. J. Stanford, D.I .M. (Wellington), writing from a prisoners of war camp, says: “We ran it a bit too close. I came down by parachute right in the raid and never got touched. It was pleasant coming down, but we sure left the piano in a hurry. Our camp is pleasant but we tire due for a move.
