HAWERA August A This morning weather conditions wore favourable for training operations at Hawera and good -progress was made with horses being prepared to race early. Hast work was performed on the course proper, with, the trestles 25ft. out and the going still holding. L t The best sprint of the morning was registered by Corday, who covered three Ju 40. Corday Is the Man’s Pal—Chariot* o three-year-old who showed promise last season by running a couple of seconds in four starts. Peter’s Choice (Holland) and Gay Theio (Grind Jay after sprinting up the straight smartly, were sent three furlongs, Peter’s Choice finishing a. length n ‘front In 41*. War Effort (Potroz) finished in front of Platinum Wings (Graham) at the conclusion of four furlongs that occupied 58. War Effort was doing it comfortably. Battledress and Buns by were both given half pacework on the Hand, finishing up fast over the last couple or furlongs. Battledress’a trip to Australia has been abandoned. Lady Pippin (1 otroz) and Duncannon (Graham) sprinteu three furlongs in 41 1-5, Duncannon going very attractively to finish a length and a half in front. A pleasing schooling bout over a round of hurdles was performed by the hunters Sir Col (Graham) and Bestman (McDonald), the pair jumping splendidly.
