(L McMillan, Minister of Scientific and Industrial Research, returned to Wellington yesterday from the South Island. Dr. E. Marsden, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, is visiting Auckland. Commissioner J. Evan Smith, territorial commander of the SalvaUon Army in New Zealand, left last night for Hie south.
.Mr. Erreld G. .Martin, managing director in New Zealand for the Atlantic Union Oil Company, returned to Wellington from the south yesterday. Mr. 11. 11. Sterling, Wellington, who is representing the Minister of National Service in connexion with the organization of women's war auxiliaries, has been visiting Waikato centres. Mr. L. J. Schmitt, general manager of the Tourist and Publicity Department. returned to Wellington yesterday morning after a brief visit to the South Island.
Mr. .1. S. I'lelcher. Wellington, and Mr. 11. C. Grossman, Auckland, left Auckland by the American Clipper on Tuesday on a business visit to I lie United Stales.
The mayor, Mr. Hislop, and Councillors W. Appleton and R. McKeen, were last night appointed to represent the Wellington City Council at the forthcoming municipal conference in Auckland.
Mr. F. 11. Bass, Wellington, secretary of Tasman Empire Airways, Limited, returned from Australia by the Awarua. whicli arrived at Auckland on Tuesday. He is ex|>ected in Wellington lids morning.

Mr. 11. E. llawusley, who recently retired from the position of secretary of tlie Wellington Trust, Loan and Investment Company, Limited, was the recipient of a presentation from the directors. The presentation was made by the two senior directors, Mr. R. W. Gibbs and Dr. C. Prendergast Knight. Reference was made by Mr. Gibbs to the 58 years of successful and continuous service which Mr. Rawnsley had given to the company.
