Raising Money For War

Purposes PRESBYTERIAN VIEW (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ November 13. V protest against the holding of art unions and raffles for patriotic purposes was entered at the Presbyterian General Assembly with the adoption of the following resolution:— “That this assembly, while recognizing the need for the maximum war effort and the raising of funds for a variety of war purposes, discountenances gambling as a means to that end and expresses regret that the Government should have increased facilities for such gambling. Assembly urges Presbyterians to refrain from gambling and make contributions through other channels than those afforded by art unions, raffles, and kindred schemes. The Minister of Education is to be asked to take steps to prevent school children selling raffle tickets.
