Beautiful 1.-aud-kiiiltcd garments of all de>criptioiis. warm quilts, underwear, scarves, socks and mittens, are among a large quantity of articles being packed for evacuees in England by the Wellington English-Speaking Union's war work group. The goods are to lie sent direct to Dartmouth House, the union headquarters in London. 'This fine effort is only part of Hie group's activities, for it also considerably helps local patriotic activities with knitted goods aud comforts The [Kicking is being done under tlie supervision of Airs. E. D. Good, circle convener, Hie entire collection of garments being a triumph of skilful and careful work. Things have been made witli tlie same taste and care as if lhev were to be worn by members’ own children. All articles are woollen and all new.
There .-ire children's jerseys, cardigans. twin sets, caps, pants and jersey sets for small boys, petticoats, and baby’s wear among the children's thiiigs. There is also warm woollen uhderclotliing for women and men, and attractive bed jackets and sleeping suits for younger children. Ollier articles include a man’s overcoat, two women's overcoats, women's frocks, cosy dressing-gowns, and 15 warm padded quilts. These quills, the majority of which have been made by one member, have a professional finish which would make them coveted articles in any household. Pieces of tweed have been sewn together, a lining of blanket or any warm woollen article added and topped with a covering of silk material in attractive, colours.
Skirts were made and jumpers knitted to tone so that a child will receive in some cases a ready-to-wear ensemble. One outfit, beautifully knitted, consisted of skirt, cardigan and cap witli tailored viyella blouse added.
The articles to.be dispatched will in many cases bear a caril witli the name of the sender, in Hie hope that a correspondence may spring up its a result. Altogether 180 articles are being packed, and in addition 350 have been sent to the metropolitan patriotic* committee, 00 to men of the navy and 150 hussifs made by the war workgroup to dale.
