PROMOTED TO WING COMMANDER

Squadron Leader McGregor, Napier

Dominion Special Service. NAPIER, November 12. Promotion to the rank of "Wing Commander has been won by Squadron Leader 11. D. McGregor, a former Napier resident, according to advice which has been received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hector McGregor, Napier. Wing Commander McGregor, who is 29 years of age, was educated at Napier Boys’ High School, and went to England to join the Royal Air Force when 18 years of age, since when he has bad varied experience in many branches of the service. For an action in which he participated in the Middle East against- tribesmen during the early days of the war he was awarded the D.S.O. Referring to recent air raids over Britain Wing Commander McGregor writes: “We have had some extraordinarily good news. I don’t think it is giving anything away to say that in 11 days at one period we got 54 enemy for sure, not counting others which were damaged and would probably not get home. A couple of mine were ‘flamers,’ a most astounding sight. Altogether I got six, three Junkers SB's. two Messerschmitt 109’s and one Messerschmitt 110.”

Wing Commander McGregor participated in the Dunkirk action, when he was shot down and had to take to his parachute.
