RAILWAY MISHAP
Engine Lifted Back On To Track The K class -locomotive which ran into a boulder just south of Hihltahi ou Friday night has now been rerailed. The engine, which weighed 136 tons with tender was hoisted back to the track by two of the department’s 40ton break-down cranes. The work was done last Sunday under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, -Mr. G. J. Bertinshaw. and the locomotive superintendent, Air. P. RAngus. The engine was hauled to Ta'ihape and will later be taken to Wellington and repaired at the Woburn Workshops, Hutt. Valley.
Though damaged by striking the boulder, the running parts of the locomotive were in sufficiently good order to enable ths engine to be hauled on its own wheels to Taihapc.
