T’he old Waiwera which carried part of the first contingent of men from Wellington to the South African War finished her life as the City of Pretoria, thus preserving to the last a connexion with South Africa, said Captain A. Mclntosh, who replied to the toast of the Mercantile Marine at the annual reunion of the South African Veterans’ Association in Wellington last night. There was now a new Waiwera sailing the seas, said Captain Mclntosh, and aboard her was a gift from the South African veterans which was greatly appreciated.
