WORK ON DISPLAY

Junior Red Cross "Shop' 7 In Wellington

A display of Junior Red Cross work has been attracting considerable interest in Wellington tb-is week. A shop at Stewart Dawson's corner lias been engaged, and the display is set out in the window and in the shop, the walls of which are lined with health and Red Cross posters.

The “shop” is of special interest to teachers visiting Wellington for the annual conferences, and has also attracted many school children and others interested in the work. The children’s handwork is from Japan, Hawaii and the Cook Islands, and there are also examples by New Zealand children. There are some excellent portfolios made in New Zealand schools by children of other countries.

iWith the ideals of health teaching in schools being incorporated with all subjects, as is (lone in Canada, plus t'he spirit of service and friendliness created by the work and activities connected with this movement, it is hoped to make Wellington city a 100 per cent Junior Red Cross centre, followed by the whole province and later the whole of New Zealand, stated the secretary yesterday. This is the 'beginning of a national appeal to those interested on behalf of the children, who can themselves live healthily and perform numerous services if guided correctly and continuously, and thus do their bit toward helping in these critical times. The “shop” will be open till 8 o’clock tonight, and till next Tuesday.
