ASHBURTON DISTRICT

Some Roads Under Water (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, May 8. As a result of three days’ heavy rain throughout the county the rivers are in high flood and are still rising swiftly. The approach to the. temporary bridge at Hinds, on the main south road, has been washed away and the bridge itself is likely to go. The Moronau road, the alternative south highway, is under water, through traffic making a long detour toward the coast.

Tho south approach to the Ashburton bridge is crumbling. The trains are crossing the bridges at reduced speeds. Three feet of water is lying on tlie low area of the golf links, on tlie bank of the Ashburton River.
