MONDAY’S WRESTLING

Chief Bittle Wolf, who takes into the wrestling ring with him all the traditional cunning, speed, and endurance of the Redskin, will make his first Wellington appearance of the 1940 season in the Town Hall on Monday night. He will be matched with John Katan, the tough and rugged Canadian, who opeiw-d his New Zealand tour this week in truly sensational fashion by scoring a win against “Botty” Blomfield. Little Wolf has come back a greaterwrestler than before. With his famous Indian deathlock, a hold in the use of which he is without a peer, working more smoothly than previously, and plenty of new holds aud manoeuvres to.back it up, Bittie Wolf is certain to make his presence felt to some purpose during the season. He was most impressive in his two contests in Auckland, and he should be seen to even better advantage on Monday, for he has had a chance to settle down after his voyage from the United States, and will also be up against the toughest opponent he has met so far. Katan’s win over Blomfield'makes him the wrestler of the moment, and those who saw him in action can well understand that he gained his victory over Earl McCready on his merits. As a physical sipecimen, Katan is outstanding, and he makes the best possible use of liis weight and strength when he goes into action. In answer to the indian deathlock he has at least two specialty holds which should trouble Little Wolf, one of these being a standing, inside Japanese toehold. The preliminaries, beginning at 8 o’clock, will include another lively “semiprofessional” bout.
