RESERVE BANK
New Chief Accountant MR. W. H. WELSH RETIRES The Reserve Bank of New Zealand announces that, consequent upon the retirement of the chief accountant, Mr. W. H. Welsh, on account of ill-health, the following appointments have been made as from May 1: — Mr. W. R. Eggers to be chief accountant. Mr. R. W. Cox to be deputy-chief accountant. In addition, Mr. A. Ross is appointed a deputy chief cashier. The new chief accountant, Mr. Eggers, was born in Feilding. He joined the Government Life Insurance Office in Wellington in 1912, and remained there till early in 1927, except for the years 1915 to 1919, when he was with the Wellington Mounted Rifles in Egypt and Palestine. In 1927 Mr. Eggers went to the Treasury and he was an investigating officer there when he joined the Reserve Bank as deputy chief accountant on its inception in 1934. He holds the degree of Bachelor of Commerce. On behalf of the staff of the bank the deputy governor, Mr. W. F. L. Ward, presented to Mr. Welsh a silver teaset at a farewell gathering last week, and Mr. Welsh later left for Nelson, where he intends to reside. For many years Mr. Welsh has been associated with the management of the -New Zealand Government Debt, first with the Treasury, and since 1936 with the Reserve Bank when the management of the debt was transferred to that institution. His relinquishment of the post of chief accountant will be widely regretted by his many friends throughout the Dominion and also by all those with whom he came in contact.
