AUTUMN SHOW
Hawke’s Bay A. And P. Society SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN ENTRIES Dominion Special Service. HASTINGS. March 25. Fine weather again favoured the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society for its thirty-sixth annual autumn show, which wan held today at the Tomoana Showgrounds. Entries showeu a substantial increase on those of Inert year, and the quality of the exhibits set a high standard in all sections. Large crowds filled the halls and enclosures. The Department of Agriculture’s large marquee was a centre of interest throughout the afternoon. Lectures by ofheers of the department created great interest, specially among members of the farming community. . The chilled beef entry, which is believed to constitute a world record, was, the focus of attention this afternoon This morning the judge, Mr. S. S. Timbe, V nnganui, gave an instructive lecture on the ehilled beef industry and explained the points of the first 10 placed beasts. The Jersey classes, which, considering the season and time of the year, were m the main in particularly good order, were judged this morning. Bulls and heifers were the only classes to attract entries in the Milking Shorthorn section. Calf club competitions were well supported, mainly by youthful exhibitors. . A display which created considerable interest was the marching and piping O', the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band, which performed with success at the national contest in Christchurch. Highland dancing and piping entries were particularly large.
