RESIDENTIAL NURSERY
The management committee of the Women’s National Reserve Residential Nursery, Owen Street, Wellington, met recently.
A very hearty welcome was extended to Mrs. Fyfe, the newly-elected president of the Kelburn-Northland branch, also to Mrs.-D. J. Hollis, newly-elected secretary of the Lower Hutt branch. Successful branch gatherings were reported, and plans for future work showed the courage and determination of the leaders, which augured well for a successful year. Eastbourne Townswomen's Guild Tall vases of goldenrod, asters and birch were used as effective decorations in St. Ronan's hall, Eastbourne, when the local branch of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen’s guilds held its monthly meeting recently. Mrs. Cogdale presided over a good attendance of members. A letter was received from the mayoress, Mrs. Wise, stating that she bail much pleasure in accepting the office of patron of the branch. Mrs. Cogdale, convener of the correspondence circle, reported that members’ children had corresponded with children of members of Eastbourne guild. England, and were eagerly awaiting replies. Mrs. Bowley, convener of Hie gardening circle, reported that a visit to Mr. Righton's garden at York Bay was planned for the end of this month. The convener of the arts and crafts circle, Mrs. Berry, notified members of meetings and tin interesting demonstration of pewter and brass work was given by Mrs. Ix?och. Mrs. Strang was appointed vicepresident of the branch. During the afternoon Mrs. Stewart gave several songs and was presented witli a bouquet of flame dahlias. A competition for a butter sponge was won by .Mrs. HurstBarton, who received a dainty china shepherdess donated by Mrs. Strang. Several new members were enrolled and the meeting concluded with afternoon tea, served by the committee.
