ANNUAL MEETINGS
Women's Institutes Miingaweku. At the seventh annual meeting of the Mangaweka institute Mrs. Ince presided, giving a review of the year’s work, and thanking the committee for its able assistance. An antique display was held, the trading table being well supported. The drama circle entertained with a very amusing play-reading. Poroutawhao The sixth annual meeting of the Poroutawhao Women’s Institute was held in the new hall in Poroutawhao. in spite of a wet afternoon, there was a good attendance of members. Miss Cotter, who deputized for Mrs. Sinnott, presided during the election of officers for the coining year. Mrs. Tabor was re-elected president for the fourth year in succession, with Airs. Arcus secretary. The following committee was elected: Mesdames Spiers, Tait, Church, H. Kilsby, Carle and Webb. A social afternoon followed, with competitions and a dainty' afternoon tea. Miss Cotter gave an interesting talk about institutes. The beautiful silver cup (the donor wishes to remain anonymous) presented for the points prize was won by Mrs. Healy’, who is leaving the institute for Newberry. She was also the recipient of a gift from members. Mrs. Church received a gift for second prize, and Mrs. Carle one for third. Mrs. Healy donated two miniature silver cups for points prizes for the coming year. Mesdames Tabor, Arcus and Miss Cotter received baskets of grapes from Mrs, Spiers. Tinui. The annual meeting of the Tinui Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs. O’Hara. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs. O’Hara; secretary, Miss D. Groves; committee, Mesdames Johnston, Voss, Speedy, Mac Alister, Misses C. O’Hara, S. Atack, P. French, P. Street, E. Mac Alister. Paekakariki. The annual meeting of the Paekakariki institute was presided ove r by Mrs. Tutt, who was presented with a gift fropi members. Mrs. Synott was the institute’s guest for the afternoon, and conducted the election.
The winners of the points prizes for the year were as follows : Cooking, Mrs. Gourley; needlework, Miss Steptoe; flower competition. Mrs. Gourley. The election resulted as follows: President, Mrs. Jackson; secretary, Mrs. Geddes; committee. Mesdames A. Tutt, Gourley, F. King, M. Smith. Hedley, McKay, Beckett, Davis and Miss Holton. Belmont.
At the annual meeting of the Belmont institute the following members were elected: President, Mrs. Hoare: committee, Mesdames Thompson, Wilson. Trance. Nelson, Treen, Cosgrave, Finlayson, Young. Brown. Hathaway. .Mrs. Bennett, the retiring president, was in the chair, and wished “bon voyage” to the four niembers who will leave next month on the women’s institute trip to attend the Associated Countrywomen of the World Conference in London.
Two delegates were appointed to the annual council meeting: Mesdames Black and France.
Flowers were presented to Mrs. Summers, Mrs. Unsworth, and Mrs. Craig, who acted as scrutineers, and the outgoing committee. The points competition for the year was won by Mrs. Bennett.
