Newspaper Office Entered BUTCHER LOSES £45 By Telegraph—Press Association HASTINGS, March 19. The fact that the staff was still working in adjacent oilices did not deter au audacious attempt at theft by two young men who entered the "Daily Mail,' 1 Hastings office early on Saturday morning. They ransacked the main office in an unsuccessful search for the strong-room keys. With other keys, they failed to open the strongroom. Members of the staff, hearing the noise, disturbed the intruders who escaped. They were later detected observing the office from a distance and were chased by two employees on a motor-cycle but vanished. On the same morning, an actual burglary occurred, bearing similar features. The thieves gained entry to a butcher’s shop in Hastings and searched the office for the safe keys which they found. The safe was opened and £45 stolen. A third attempt_ was made last night on a shop in Hastings Entry was effected but nothing of value removed. The police are maintaining a close watch as these attempts are the climax of a series of thefts extending over several several weeks.
