Garden Party For Carnival Queen The beautiful grounds surrounding Mrs. London’s home on the western bills, Petone, were the scene ou Saturday atlernoon of a centennial garden party organized by the women's queen carnival letone committee. The garden, which com prises steep bushclad hills, beautilul old English trees, rare shrubs aud gay flowei beds, is one of the oldest in the valley and has vantage points which command fine glimpses of harbour, valley and bills. Mrs. AV. Nash opened the party. Hie mayor of Petone, Mr, G. London, also spoke. Mrs. J. C. Burns, president of the committee, introduced the women's queen, Mrs. R. Bradley. The M.P. for the Hutt, Mr. Nash, aud the mayor of Lower Hutt, Mr. J. AV. Andrews, aud Mrs. Andrews were present. The Maori girls' choir, trained by Mrs. M. Love, gave vocal items and poi dances on the lawn, and Taylor’s Harmonica Band also gave items'. The stallholders were Mesdames A. Miller, G. Porter, J. Cumming, Brocklebank. Jackson, Partita, Olsen, A. Garner, H. G. Jones and Miss C. Hart. The committee comprised Mrs. Burns, Mrs. A. Miller (secretary), Mrs. G, Porter (treasurer), Mesdames A. Bell. E. J. Collett, 11. Pratley. C. Ransdon, J. E. AViteon, Gardner, Parnta, Olsen, Jones, AV. Miller and J. Cumming.

St. Patrick’s Day Concert. A largely attended concert was held in St. Peter's Hall, Lower Hutt, in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. The performers were Mesdames F. Potter, Knigge, Gray and Culloty, Misses Doris Gardner, Beatrice Taylor and Edith Pryde, Messrs. K. Brooker, J. Miller. S. McDonngh, Trcseder, D. Milne and E. Muir.- The convent boys gave pleasing items. The Rev. Father L. Daly thanked the performers.

A washhouse at 40 Rossiter Avenue, Lower Hutt, caught alight on Saturday afternoon, the outbreak being suppressed by the Lower Hutt A'olunteer Fire Brigade. Little damage was done.
