Parents’ Work Appreciated
Two members of the board of governors, Mr. W. H. Dentou and Mrs. Knox Gilmer, attended the annual meeting of the Wellington East Girls’ College Parents’ Association in the Batham Assembly Hall at the college this week. Others present were the principal, Miss N. G. Isaac, and the former principal, Miss Batham. Mr. W. F. Stock presided. Mrs. Gilmer spoke of the interest which parents had shown in the affairs of the college, and said she appreciated the splendid financial assistance given by the association, specially the ladies’ auxiliary. Mr. Denton spoke of the work of the sub-committees, and referred particularly to the splendid progress made with the shrubbery and walks round the college. MJss Isaac praised the work of the ladies’ auxiliary. The annual report, after referring to the erection of the hall, stated that work on the grounds had been continued during the year, and many improvements had been made. The back tennis court was enlarged by moving the fence to the edge of the new road leading to the hall, and the area gained was tar-sealed, together with smaller portioils adjacent to the ball, giving a more finished appearance to that section of the grounds. The hillside adjacent to the rock garden had been cleared and planted with shrubs, and other improvements had been carried out. The ladies’ auxiliary had been doing splendid work, and bad organized a numberjof successful functions, including the annual fair, which had resulted in a net profit of approximately £B4. Altogether the auxiliary had raised more than £4OO toward the cost of the assembly building.

Leadsman; auditor, Mr. R. I. Fletcher: committee, Mesdames W. C. Smith and G. H. Bell (ex officio, ladies’ auxiliary), Messrs. W. C. Smith, A. J. Craig. W. W. Sherring, E. 11. Morton, T. E. Reynolds, W. T. Steeds, E. Wells, F. H. Porter, and McArtney, and Mesdames P. Ballard, D. E. Williamson, S. V. McEwen, C. E. Proctor, H. It. Baigent, and W. J. Chatfield. Two representatives of the Old Girls’ Associatiou have still to be elected.
