SUNSHINE FOR AUTUMN RACES

Bright Weather At Trentham Responsible For Division Of Modes

Though yesterday started with little promise of sunshine for the first day ot the Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meetn>g, y midday the clouds had •" of typical midsummer weather. As a iesuii, u o division in modes chosen ensembles with IS SZX- X umeh being in silk gowus and large hats. In spite of the difference in seasonal styles, a particularly smart meeting.

A feature of the day’s dressing was the unusual predominance of colour. While many of the older women clung to the ever-smart black, it was noticeable that many had realized the suitability of the new season’s coiours, and smart ensembles in the new shades o dahlia, teal-blue, and golden-browns were evident, showing grey and white hair to advantage. The new dahlia and brown shades, including chrysanthemums, have not been monopolized by the Okie veneration, however. Many youthful racegoers used these tunings as trimmings, both for frocks and hats, and also for accessories. The purple clover shades go well with navy blue, which was a favourite colour choice. Her Excellency .Viscountess Galway, who was received by Mrs. E. Riddiford, wife of the racing club president, looked very charming in a lido blue costume and naw straw brimless hat, crowned with blue and cyclamen flowers. Mrs. Riddiford wore a smart black ensemble with silver fox furs and high-crowned velour hat.
