PAPACY’S AIM TO SERVE TRUTH
Pius Xll’s Plea To Cardinals For Assistance (Received March 14, 7.30 p.m.) ROME, March 14. The Pope, replying to the 'congratulations of the Cardinals today, said that the Pontificate’s only aim throughout 'the centuries had been the service of truth. He appealed for assistance in carrying out his high offlee. Alluding to all that is hoped for and expected from the Throne of St. Peter, His Holiness said, “not only those closely bound by the Faith, but also not a few brothers separated from us and nearly all the human family, are desirous at this hour of peace.” Despite the arduousness of the coronation ceremony, the Pope has now resumed routine work. He gave an audience to 12 people, including the Duke of Norfolk today.
The German Ambassador at the Vatican, Herr von Bergen, called on the Pope and offered Herr Hitler’s good wishes to the Pontificate.
