PRICES FIRMER
Pukekohe Potatoes & Onions Dominion Special Service. PUKEKOHE, March 13. Prices of Pukekohe potatoes and onions have risen in the past seven'days, there being a very firm demand and supplies being limited. There has been a substantial drop in price in the case of other lines of Pukekohe produce. The digging of autumn potato crops is now under way and though no sales from the district to Australia have yet taken place only limited quantities are coming forward for table use in 'New Zealand, growers being inclined to hold fairly heavy quantities for seed or the possibility of the Australian trade still further firming the market. This has led to the price rising from 10/- to 11/a cwt. f.o.b. Pukekohe. Since last Monday supplies of onions, direct from paddocks are now almost exhausted and the trade is being fed mostly from supplies that have been carted to sheds. The price has risen from 15/6 to 17/6 a cwt. in the week. Pickling onions are at 17/6 too, as against 16/to 16/6 a week ago. Pumpkins are down 1/- a cwt., being 7/6 today. Carrots are at 5/- a sugar bag. which is a drop of 2/-, parsnips sell at 7/6, which is also a drop of 2/-. The price of tomatoes has receded 1/3 a case, the price being 4/3 a case today. Marrows remain at 4/6 a dozen and rhubarb at 4/6 a dozen bundles. Parlin cooking apples sell at 8/- a 461 b. case.
