Star Hold Old Members’ Day WHALEBOAT RACES The Star Boating Club held its annual old members’ day on Saturday afternoon, when a series of whaleboat races was held, the boats being steered in each case bv ex-servicemen. Though the weather was cold and showery six crews took part and the race« were watched by a large gathering of old members and supporters. of the club. The races resulted : — First Heat. K. In the final Bert’s crew and Frazer’s crew rowed a dcad-heat and the race had to be rowed again. Frazer's crew ; having rowed one race fewer than Bert's crew, succeeded in winning comfortably by three lengths. CLUB PAIRS Wellington Contest Eight crews from the Wellington Rowing Club took part in the club pairs competition on Saturday afternoon, the races being rowed over three-quarters of a mile because of the gusty conditions. Results were as follows: —

Manning and A. Ashworth 1 K. Fish and J. de Routfignac 2 Won by three lengths. Fourth Heat. J. Luke and E. McSherry I W. McLean and T. Williamson .... 2 Won bv six lengths. First Semifinal. Meivor and Hayton J Newson anti Killalea - Won by six lengths. Second Semifinal. Luke and McSherry 1 Manning and Ashworth 2 Won by three lengths. The final will be rowed tonight if opportunity offers. EIGHTS IN TRAINING

Luder the eye of the coach, Mr. A. E. White, the Wellington interprovincial eight went for a practice row on Oriental Bay, but diil not get very far because of a broken axle. The crew is now as follows: O. Clayton, K. Boswell. G. Cooke, P. Abbott, I. Carter, A. Andrews, D. Boswell, L. llosking. The Victoria University College eight which is to compete at the universities’ tournament in Dunedin at Easter was also on the water. The personnel of this crew has not yet been announced.
