Referring in Ihe House of Commons to the International Rubber Regulation Committee’s communique showing that permissible imports for the last seven months of 1034 were nearly 499.000 tons, and actual exports just over 488,000 tons, the Colonial Secretary, Sir I’. Cunliffe-Listcr, said the figures showed that the scheme had so far worked very satisfactorily.
Regarding steps to be taken under the restriction scheme to control production by natives in Dutch East Indies ami their effectiveness >» the event of a substantial rise in the price of rubber, he said he understood lliat in some districts a system of individual restriction was being introduced, and in others control by means of export duty. He bad every confidence in the ability of the Netherlands Government to secure effective control in any circumstances likely to arise.
