“RIGHT TO COMPLAIN”

Australians and Voce LORD HAWKE’S OPINION London, January 30. Lord Hawke, at the Yorkshire Cricket Club meeting, stated emphatically that the Australians had a perfect right to complain against Voce’s two overs at Nottingham, which, according to .the evidence, constituted a direct attack on the batsman.

Lord Hawke protested against Press complaints of the Test selectors’ omission of two players, though one. had said that he had no desire and no intention to play against the Australians. The other player was similarly rendered ineligible by a statement in the Press that be would not play against the Australians.

Lord Hawke said that he believed that direct bowling was extinct.. He did not expect umpires would ever be called on to act. Yorkshire would never stand for persistent short fast bowling on the line of a batsman standing clear of the wicket.
