Paul Robeson in “Bosambo”
pAUL ROBESON’S performance in “Bosambo,” which is an adaptation of , “Sanders of the River,” by Edgar Wallace, is excellent for two reasons. He is unquestionably the greatest negro actor and singer of his generation, and also he is playing a part which he has long had the ambition to portray —that, of" showing negros as human beings, each with his own problems to solve, however wild their environment may be. “Bosambo” is a story of thrilling adventure among the wild and warlike tribes of Central Africa, and an epic of Empire building, wrßten from first hand knowledge by Edgar Wallace in the days when he worked on the West Coast of Africa. Played for the most part by natives who had never before been before the camera, the film is one of extraordinary interest, quite apart from the thrilling plot. The negro cast is headed by Pau! Robeson and Nina Mae McKinney, and the English by Leslie Banks and Joan Gardner.
