Conrad Veidt’s Artistry
SUPPORTING casts in British films are almost invariably cleverlychosen, but in "Jew Suss” the selection was, in two instances, little short of! inspired. The performances of Paul Graetz and Sir Cedric Hardwicke almost challenge the supremacy of that of Veldt himself, so perfect are they both. Conrad Veidt has some claim to be regarded as Europe’s greatest living actor. lie made his first impression in “The Student of Prague,” regarded by many critics as his-best performance. But in "The Last Company” and "The Wandering Jew,” he rose to greater heights. He lived every emotion he portrayed in “I Was a Spy” and again, he has many great, vibrant moments in the forthcoming “Jew Suss,” a Gaumont-British production, which he himself avers, is the character that has most appealed to him. From the beginning, Veldt s acting career has been remarkable for its consistent progress under increasingly exacting tests of his powers. Film Praised by Prince A USTRALIAN CELEBRITY PICTURES announce that after several months of negotiating they have secured the exclusive rights for Australia and New Zealand of the celebrated picture, “Girls in Uniform,” which caused such a sensation in London, Paris, Berlin and New York. “Girls in Uniform” is the English speaking version of the famous Continental picture, “Maedehen in Uniform.” It is an unusual love story with Ilertlin Thiele and Dorothy Wieck in the title roles. The Prince of Wales has seen the picture three times and has given it glowing praise.
