“Imitation of Life”
pictures, like human beings become great through their understanding and sympathy for all people. With a heart full of tolerance and humanity, Fannie Hurst conceived the plot of Universal’s “Imitation of Life,” with a sincerity and tender finesse John M. Stahl has given it impressive life. Claudette Colbert is superb in her role and Warren William rises to heights of acting such as he never before attained. Then there is Baby Jane. Small in stature, but looming big in possibilties. Everyone who has seen “Imitation of Life” concurs in the oninion that Universal has one of the biggest and most outstanding pictures of the year. In a world where so much injustice has resulted from misunderstanding and intolerance a play like “Imitation of Life” should have a far-reaching effect. The picture's unusual theme is perfectly handled and the players give inspired performances.
