FALSE DECLARATIONS
Two Relief Workers Fined Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, January 31. Two charges of receiving monetary relief from the Unemployment Board by misrepresentation were brought against Wilfred Hamilton Ransom, plumber, of Levin, in I lie Levin Magistrate’s Court to-day. Defendant pleaded guilty and was fined £2 and costs on each charge by Mr. J. 11. .Salmon. S.M. Mr. W. 11. C'adwallader, who represented the Unemployment Board, said that defendant while receiving £3/5/8 a week from private employment liad furnished false . returns and bad received £2O/8/10 in unemployment relief. During that period he had received £B5 in wages as a plumber. Defendant stated that lie had been ignorant of what lie had earned. Bert Spooner, plumber, of Levin, also faced two similar charges and was dealt with similarly. Mr. Cadwallader said that defendant had received £lB/4/9 in unemployment relief during the six months ended November 30, and during the same period had received £BO/4/9 as wages from his trade, an average of £3 1/9 weekly. Defendant had returned his earning's for the period as £l9/6/6. ,
