THEFT BY NURSE
Fellow-Workers’ Money By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, January 31. Before Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, Gwendoline Mavis Evans, aged 27, senior nurse a’t the Cashmere Sanatorium, admitted stealing money from three of her fellow-workers. In one case she took i2 from a letter posted by a nurse, and in two other cases she took money from nurses’ rooms while the owners were absent. The accused was remanded on bail until February 7, in order to allow a report on the case to be made by the Salvation Army adjutant. The police said that some of tlie stolen money had been spent, £2 had been refunded, and over £8 had not been refunded. ■ Counsel said that the case was pathetic, as the girl had had a blame-less-character. It is.difficult to find the motive, lint the girl had been very run down lately, having been on night duty for two months. She had lost tivo stone in weight, and evidently had lost control of herself. An application for suppression of the name was refused.
