PEAT FIRES RAGING
Immediate Help Needed By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, January 31. Tlie need for immediate and drastic action to combat tlie peat fires now raging in the Waikato was emphasised at a conference of local body representatives and Government officials today. It was decided Io approach the Government for funds, and committee was set up to negotiate. A county representative expressed the opinion that any relief should lie financed by the Government.
An uneinployment official said lie was empowered to utilise labour under certain conditions.
