British Government Interest Reduction
Sir, —Referring to your issue of Wednesday, it will be noted that Mr. David Jones, chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, in a speech made at the luncheon of the Royal Empire Society at tlie Cannon Street Hotel, London. is reported to have stated as follows : “Both the British Government and the Governments of the Dominions had made more or less compulsory reductions in their internal interest rates.” The above statement in regard to the British Government is incorrect, the truth being that the British Government gave the holders of the loan, the option of being paid out, or of taking up the new issue at a lower rate of interest. I respectfully suggest that the true statement of fact in regard to the conditions of the conversion of the British loan should be given to the public of New Zealand. —I am, etc.,
C. 11. SEVILLE. Wellington, January 23. \
