AGE LOWERED

Provisional Matriculation SENATE DECISION By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, January 21. The age for provisional matriculation will be lowered from 25 to 21, according to a motion carried to-day by the senate of the University of New Zealand. The object of the clause is to admit some persons under certain conditions who have not passed the university entrance examination but who desire and are thought reasonably fit to pursue a course at the university. The clause as it. stands at present allows such provisional matriculations to be granted any persons not under 25 years old. This clause was adopted by the senate originally to provide for returned soldiers, allowing them to take a university course without formally passing the entrance examination. At first the age was 30 years and was later reduced to 25. It is now to be reduced to 21.
