“GLAD TO BE BACK”
Perry, Tennis Champion, at Auckland SILENT ABOUT FUTURE By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, January 21. Except that he mentioned that he ■was glad to be back in New Zealand, and that he was looking forward to the New Zealand championship tourna meat, F. J. Perry, world tennis champion, had nothing to say about his movements when he arrived at Auckland this afternoon from Sydney by the Monowai. On professionalism, film contracts, and his future plans, Perry was quietly but firmly silent. To ail questions he gave the same answer: "1 am glad to be back in New Zealand, and I am looking forward to an en joyable trip.” Three Victorian tenuis stars, 11. 'V Ewin, A. A. Kay, and Miss Shirley Whittaker, arrived with Perry to take part in the national championships. A popular figure at Stanley Street seven years ago, L. G. Knott, who. witn N. G. Sturt, won the New Zealand doubled title in 1928, also arrived from Sydney to play with his old team mate in the doubles. For several years he has been living in Australia, and with his wife has come to Auckland for a tennis holiday.
