TRENTHAM GALLOPS

Some Interesting Work VINTAGE LOOKS WELL (By “The Watcher.”) A strong westerly wind eventually brought up rain at Trentham yesterday morning, but it came fairly late in the proceedings and did not last long, clearing at the breakfast interval. The going vias not affected to any extent. Tne outside of the course proper and the trial grass were the galloping tracks, and provided excellent and fast going, though the outside of the course proper near the five furlongs was soft enough to be plainly marked. Horses working on this track ran well inside the distances, and consequently showed extremely fast times, even against the strong wind on the turn. Red Sun and Sunee ran six on (he trial grass in 1.16, the last half in 51. The trial grass distances are correct, and both went well. Sunee should win on the work he has been doing. Variant and Hostis sprinted down the straight on the course proper, both moving well. Round Score ran seven in 1.32, and Dombey half a mile in 52. Spiral and Knock Out paced from the seven to the half just ahead of Rocket and then ran home in 49. Spiral went well. He had his trainer in the saddle, but there was only a light weight on Knock Out, who, nevertheless, put up a good effort. Rocket, having found his feet by the time they began to sprint, held on two or three lengths behind them. Rocket looks well. Silly Owl and Back Thrust sprinted a half in 51, and Bun Fight ran home the last three in the straight. Cyclonic ran seven in 1.30, and Red Manfred was only kicked along in the straight at the end of his seven. Severe and Abdication ran three in 371, Severe well in front. Hunting Bag was doing it well nt the end of six with Abdication in 1,164, the 1 last half in 514. A feature of this gallop

I was that when they were rounding the I turn into the straight they were encountered by the two-year-old Heritage coming down from the live-furlongs start. Heritage was about three or four lengths behind when they straightened up, but he caught them : n the run home and finished on terms. As they ran the last half in 51 it showed Heritage to advantage. He ran a bit green, but he is a beautiful mover. He is an odd colour for the Eulogy family, being a pronounced brown, tending toward black.

Burnish and Mothre Superior ran four in 48, and both did it well. It pointed to Burnish being in good order after earlier lack of form, in which case she will make matters interesting from now on.

Diatomous and Princess Doreen ran five in 1.24, the last half in 49. They carried level weights, with Princess Doreen having the inside running. She appeared to be doing it just as well as Diatomous, but he was in a sporty mood with his lady companion, and instead of concentrating on bis work he was boring in on her in the straight and biting her. This gallop was on the trial grass. Gay Marigold, alone, lan a mile in 1.44. She was not travelling fast early, but came home the last half mile in 51. Cuddle ran five furlongs in 1.3. Tout !e Monde and Invoice taking 51 for four. 'Pout le Monde worked well. Vinco, the unraeed Grand Knight maiden in T. R. George’s stable, finished clear of Fersen with Arouse further back at the end of four in 49 4-5. Vinco gallops well, and this half-brother to Wasteland should win plenty of races. Lucidus drew away slightly from Silver Streak at the end of four in 48. Lucidus worked well, and has apparently gone on the right way since his holiday successes. Silver Streak did not gallop like the horse he was here last January. Colombo, Epris and Wino ran four in 50. Colombo, a half-brother to Compris. looks a useful sort. After breakfast the weather was warm and sunny, but the strong wind was still in evidence. Colossian did better than Silver Sight over seven furlongs, but something went wrong with the latter’s gear.

Vintage, with a solid weight up, ran home from the half on the course proper and without being pushed recorded 52. He looks in great order. Tunneller, who is a bad track worker, took 41 to run three. Guarantee and Trivet worked separately without being after time. Heather Glow and Haere Tonu ran four in 50. Bold Jim hit out well over seven in 1.33.
