CUP DAY AT TRENTHAM
Good Fields for Wellington Opening Day TRACK IN FIRST-CLASS ORDER (By “The Watcher.”) Good fields of handy size will parade at I rentham to-day for the opening day of the summer meeting of the Wellington Racing Club. The weather prospects appear bright and as a result of the week-end rain the track will be in excellent order for the three days. To-morrow it may be a trifle dead, as the rain has come on top of liberal watering, and horses that appreciate the sting out of the ground will benefit, but the track gallops have shown the course to be in better condition than during any previous summer, for a number of years. Principal events to-day are the Wellington Cup and telegraph Handicaps, and the Wellington Stakes. It is the intention of the club to run strictly to time-table, so investors are warned that this is no false announcement to try to get them to hurry. There will be definite closing at the advertised times.
