HARBOUR CRUISE
Record Crowd on Muritai Brilliant sunshine, a pleasant breeze ruffling the water, hills and harbour at their best—conditions were ideal when the Eastbourne ferry steamer cruised the harbour yesterday with more than 1300 pleasure-trippers crowding her decks. Although the Muritai has a carrying capacity of 1500 passengers, she has never been taxed to the full, and yesterday’s was the largest crowd she has yet carried. The Muritai sailed from the Eerry Wharf at 10.30 a.m. with over 900 people aboard, and at Miramar another 370 embarked. During the day she cruised round Somes Island, visited the Heads, and spent some time at Day's Bay, where trippers went ashore to lunch or bathe. “It was a glorious day, and I think everyone enjoyed it,” said Captain G. M. Gower, who commanded the Muritai. “At the Heads a lazy southerly swell was running, but not so as to worry anyone. Passengers could see the old wreck that lies piled up under Pencarrow, and a fine view was obtained by looking toward Lyall and Island Bays. In the afternoon we sailed right round Somes Island.” The Muritai returned via Miramar to her usual berth at about 4 o’clock in the afternoon,
