DRAWING ON RESERVES
For City’s Water Supplies AUTHORITIES CONCERNED In the earlier part of the mouth several heavy thunderstorms occurred at both Wainui and Orongorongo, which temporarily restored the supplies of water in the Wellington City Council reservoirs there. The effect of these, however, has now passed away, and at Wainui storage is again being drawn upon. In the case of Orongorongo, there is again alsp insufficient water to supply the full discharging capacity of the main, with the result that the inflow into the Karori reservoir is considerably reduced. .This has resulted in Karori storage having to be heavily drawn upon to make up the deficiency and the lower dam is now only onehalf full. The position, while not yet serious, is causing the authorities responsible for the maintenance of the water supply some concern. Generally speaking, the Wainui supply has stood up to the dry weather better than that from Orongorongo, and the waterworks department, wherever alternative supplies are available, is drawing upon the Wainui supply to cover the deficiency from Orongorongo. This has resulted in much increased pumping to the higher level reservoirs. Every endeavour should be made by householders to conserve the supply, as it now appears certain that if the dry weather continues for two or three weeks longer, drastic restrictions will have to be placed upon consumption.
