SPORTS TOURNAMENT

Public Service Annual Fixtures

This year’s Public Service sports tournament will open early in February with the athletic events on the Basin Reserve, when it is expected that record entries will be received from the members of tlie various Government departments in Wellington. Tlie tennis tournament will take place at Miramar, and the swimming events at tlie, Thorndou baths. A strong comniitee for each section has been appointed, and it is expected that tlie programmes will be both attractive and varied. The main attraction will be the competition for the 'Ward trophy, presented by the late Sir Joseph Ward for inter-departmental competition. Besides this trophy numerous cups will be competed for. Many well-known competitors will be appearing at the various meetings. Great benefit 'accrues from these meetings, which bring together the various departments in ■friendly rivalry and closer touch with each other.
