CARDINAL’S PRAISE FOR ROTORUA
Better Than Yellowstone KEEN INTEREST IN FARM STOCK Dominion Special Service. Auckland, January IL Keen appreciation of the scenic beauties of Rotorua and Waitomo Caves has been expressed by Cardinal MacRory, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, ivho paid a brief holiday visit to these centres during the week on his way buck to Ireland from Australia. Cardinal Macßory, who made the trip to the tourist resorts by car, returned to Auckland on Thursday night, and will leave by the Mariposa to-morrow on his return to Ireland.
The Cardinal inis previously visited Yellowstone Park, the famous thermal region of the United States, but iu his opinion it cannot compare with the wonderland of Rotorua and Wairakei. lie was particularly impressed by the weird variety of the thermal activities within tlie relatively confined space of Geyser Valley, Wairakei. The Waitomo Caves he regarded as one of the natural beauties of the world.
As an Irishman, Cardinal Macßory takes a keen interest in farming stock, and during his motor trip he frequently commented on tlie excellent condition of the sheep and cattle he observed on wayside farms. He has been delighted with what he has seen of New Zealand in his short stay, and has expressed his regret that he was unable to see more of the country and its people.
