Accident With Petrol

Two accidents caused by the ignition of petrol have happened in Wellington within a week. The second occurred yesterday, the tire brigade being called to 137 Elizabeth Street, a residence occupied by Mrs. E. Eraser, where a minor outbreak had resulted from the use of petrol in starting it lire in the kitchen stove. A plea of guilty to a charge of using obscene language was made in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court yesterday by William John Mabin, labourer, aged 47, and Mr. W. IT. The blind and hopeless struggles of an exhausted fox terrier to save itself from drowning were watched by passers-by on Oriental Parade on a recent evening. The dog was rescued by a boy of about twelve who took his shirt and shoes off and swam to the animal. This is not the first time a dog lias been in such a predicament. One was rescued previously by the owner of another dog sending into the water his own pet which led the other to the nearest steps.
