WELLINGTON FIRE
Early Morning Outbreak
An early morning outbreak of fire in a building in 'Wellington city yesterday severely damaged an electrical engineering workshop, and stock was damaged bv water in other parts of the building. The fire occurred at CO Willis Street, and was started apparently by electrical equipment in the workshops of Messrs. . Macklin and Howell on the second iloor. The central fire brigade received the call at 3.45 a.m., and on arrival found that the fire had been going on for some time before the alarm was given. For a time they were hampered by dense clouds of smoke, but once it was found that the fire was confined solely to the workshop and the roof above it. the Hames were soon suppressed. A private social club situated on the first floor below the workshop suffered slightly through fire and water, and on the ground floor the stock and premises of Siegel’s, furriers, were also damaged by water, although firemen had covered the furs with tarpaulins as quickly as possible. The building is owned by Mrs. J. Golds burg.
