LORD BLEDISLOE AT ONEHUNGA
Last Public Speech Before
Farewells
PARK AND MOTOR RACING TRACK OPENED
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Auckland, January 6.
Special significance was given to the address of the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, when opening the new park and motor racing track at Onehunga on Saturday by reason of the fact that it was probably the last public occasion of the kind at which he will speak before his departure from New Zealand.
“I had thought,” fie said, “until I was pressed by your Mayor to take the place of his Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester on this occasion, that my public speaking in the Dominion was at an end. It is undoubtedly a source of sorrow to me that, except possibly for what are called valedictory gatherings at which we have sadly to say ‘Good-bye,’ this is, I believe, the last public function in which her Excellency and I will take part.”
