“TWO-UP” SCHOOL
FOUR MEN FINED. Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, Alarcli 1. As a sequel to a raid by the police on a “two up” school at Sockburn on a recent Sunday, five men were charged before Air. E. D. Alosley, S.AI., to-day with placing a game of chance. The case aga’ius't Thomas Denny was dismissed. Thomas Clarkson, who was stated to be in charge of affairs, was fined £5 and costs. Thomas Brightmore. James Alurphy, and Arthur Olson were each fined £3 and costs. Constable Murphy said there were eleven men at tlie place, but only five were caught. All except Denny bolted when the police arrived. Senior-Sergeant Lewis: Was any propertv left behind ? Witness: They left four bicycles, which have not been claimed yet. The Magistrate: Was Denny in the charmed circle ? Witness: Yes, but I understand he was not playing. The Alagistrate dismissed the charge against Denny-
