SEATOUN AND BAYS

MEETING OF PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION MATTERS NEEDING ATTENTION The annual meeting of the Seatuun and Bays’ I’regressive Association was held at the Sealoun Kiosk last night. Mr. W. L. Palmer presided over an attendance of some thirty members. Tlie report. expressing satisfaction with the work accomplished, was adopted. Air. Taylor declared that the road from Karuka Bay to Scorching Bay was one of the worst in the world. There were potholes 18in. deep, and women and children could not walk along the road in safety. The president said that in his opinion Hie roads in tho bays’ district should not be opened Io car traffic until they were ready. During the recent sped lof dry weather there had been an invasion of cars to the bays. During the present season 1(10,(100 jwople had visited the beaches at the bays. The heavy traffic had destroyed the marrian grass on the beaches, and there was a danger of sand drift. The parking of cars was becoming a serious problem, and it appeared that the City Council would have to acquire private property in order to provide parking places. In regard to Scorching Bay. tlie City Council knew all about the bad road there, us they had tried their buses on this road, and had nearly bumped the passengers into the sea. Air. G. D. Ayson said that over -£l5OO. was down on the City Council estimates to be spent on the road from Seatoun to Scorching Bay. The. sum of £5OO was to be spent: on Broadway, and a good amount had been set aside for footpaths. They would have to see that the amounts 'allocated for Seafoun were spent before the City Council went for another loan.

Mr. A. H. Hislop said that something should bo done to prevent the taking of gravel and sand from the foreshore at Breaker Bay, and the disfigurement of th'- bem'h by old iron and tins.

Air. Turner said it appeared ns if the bus service to the bays was not meant to pay and was being run with the ultimate intention of taking it off altogether. The association should press for buses to the bays or. Sunday morniitgs. The election of officois for the ensuing year resulted as follows: President. Mr. W. L. Palmer (re-elected); vice-presid-ents. Messrs. J. Barnet. A. R. Hislop, \V. Murie, and Contains T. H. Chudley and G. T. T. Hull: committee. Messis. G. Bradley. C. Wvatt. C. Bennett. A. E. Shakes, R. A. Robertson. F. Sanderson. — Doherty. S. T. Silver and 11. Anderson : hop. secretary and treasurer, Air. George D. Ayson (re-elected). Air. D. AleLaren, secretary of the Civic League, assured the association that the league would be behind them in every move for tho preservation of AVellingion’s coast line. With regard to the city bus service, the league had found that there were complaints from every suburb served bv the buses. .A. special meeting had been convened in order to go into the whole question of tramway and bus transport, and present a memorandum Io the City Council on tlie subject.
