MANAWATU WOMEN’S CLUB
— Palmerston North, February 24. The first meeting of the Manawatu Women’s Club for 1923 took place today, there being a good attendance. The hostesses for the afternoon were Airs. A. J. Graham, Airs. C. E. C. Thompson, and Airs. W. J. Dav, while several of the wives of the visiting Victorian bowlers were their guests. Miss Doris Svnies (Wanganui) contributed three songs, which were greatly appreciated, and Mrs. Paton accompanied her. An interesting address on hospital auxiliary committee work was given by Airs. Williams, of Castlemain, Victoria, who explained how, within seven years, a very large overdraft had been reduced to such an extent that by next year it was hoped that the hospital would be entirely free of debt. Airs. Williams went oil to say that their method of helping the hosnital had proved so successful that now finite a number of the Australian hospitals had auxiliary com mittees and were providing extra comforts, so greatly appreciated by the sick. At the conclusion of the meeting a hearty vote of thanks was given to Airs. Williams and Aliss Symes.
